2028 - NDC Must Reclaim The Takoradi Seat - Karen Ama Moses

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) must intensify its grassroots engagement and work to reclaim the Takoradi Constituency in the 2028 general elections, Assembly Member for Railway and Harbour, Karen Ama Moses, has said.

Ms. Moses, who is seeking to be retained as the Deputy Constituency Secretary of the NDC in Takoradi, said the party made significant gains in the constituency during the 2024 elections despite losing the seat.

Speaking on Kyzz FM, she said the NDC’s improved performance demonstrated that the constituency remains winnable for the party.

She criticised the current Member of Parliament for Takoradi, accusing him of initiating projects without completing them. She cited the Adakope Bridge, projects around Beposo and the old bridge linking Adiembra to St John’s as examples.

She also alleged that work on a motorable road in her electoral area was halted after some individuals reportedly stopped the contractors from continuing.

Ms. Moses urged the MP to prioritise development in the constituency rather than focusing on criticism of Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

On the long-delayed Takoradi Market Circle Redevelopment Project, she described it as a major priority for residents and disputed claims that the project was tied to the IMF programme.

According to her, €48 million was procured in 2021 under the previous NPP administration for the project, and she expressed hope that negotiations would resume to pave the way for construction.

Responding to the New Patriotic Party’s proposed “Operation Recover All Seats” campaign ahead of the 2028 elections, Ms. Moses said the NDC would not underestimate its opponent.

She predicted that the incumbent Takoradi MP would not retain the seat in 2028 and said the NDC must work harder at the grassroots to secure victory.

She also said the party is expected to organise its parliamentary primaries next year as preparations for the 2028 elections gather momentum.

On development funding to the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Ms. Moses claimed the STMA received about GH¢14.4 million during the NPP’s eight years in office, compared with GH¢26 million allocated to the Assembly in 2025 alone under the NDC administration.

She said the increased resources enabled the STMA to undertake 21 projects in 2025, with significant funding also directed towards sanitation.

Ms. Moses acknowledged that sanitation remains a major challenge in the metropolis but said the Assembly was taking steps to address the problem.

She maintained that the NDC’s ability to reclaim Takoradi in 2028 would depend largely on sustained grassroots mobilisation and effective communication of the party’s development agenda.
