Bank of Ghana Sells GH¢998 Billion in 14-Day Bills to Manage Banking System Liquidity

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has sold nearly GH¢10 billion in 14-day central bank bills as it continues to use short-term securities to manage liquidity conditions within the banking system.

The latest auction, conducted on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, saw the central bank sell GH¢9.978 billion worth of the 14-day bills under Tender 874.

According to the auction results, the security, identified by ISIN GHCBAGH01314, attracted bid discount rates ranging from 10.40% to 10.46%, with all accepted bids allotted in full.

The weighted average discount rate stood at 10.4543%, equivalent to a weighted average interest rate of 10.50% per annum.

The accepted bids reflected an interest-rate range of approximately 10.44% to 10.50%.

The sizeable sale forms part of the Bank of Ghana's ongoing liquidity-management operations, through which it uses short-term securities to influence the amount of money circulating within the banking system and support orderly money-market conditions.

The 14-day maturity also means the funds raised through the auction will be tied up for a relatively short period before the securities mature.

The latest auction highlights the continued importance of central bank bills as a monetary policy and liquidity-management instrument in Ghana's financial system.
