Chelsea could be heading towards a major decision over the future of midfielder Enzo Fernández, with reports suggesting that influential football agent Jorge Mendes has become involved in efforts to facilitate a potential transfer.

Mendes is understood to have links with Fernández’s representative, Javier Pastore, and has reportedly been involved in discussions surrounding the Argentine midfielder’s future. Real Madrid were previously linked with the player, while Manchester City have emerged as another potential destination.

City are reportedly monitoring Fernández as a possible long-term successor to Rodri as manager Enzo Maresca continues to shape his project.

Fernández’s relationship with Maresca could also play a role in any potential move. The two are said to have maintained regular contact since the end of last season, although any transfer would still depend heavily on Chelsea’s valuation and Manchester City’s willingness to meet it.

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso is reportedly interested in working with Fernández but would not necessarily oppose his departure if Chelsea were able to bring in suitable reinforcements.

According to reports attributed to transfer journalist Eduardo, the previous terms under which Fernández could leave for £120 million are no longer considered valid. Any offer from City would therefore have to be significantly higher to convince Chelsea to sanction a sale.
