Takoradi — Concerns are mounting over what residents describe as reckless riding by some motorbike users along the Assakae–Kwesimintsim–Apollo–Anaji–Ntankoful stretch in the Western Region.

A radio broadcaster and resident of Kwesimintsim, William Yenzu Quansah, is appealing to the police to intensify patrols and enforcement of road traffic regulations in the area.

According to Mr Quansah, some young motorbike riders, particularly those using unregistered motorcycles, have been engaging in dangerous riding practices, including using mobile phones while riding.

He says the situation has contributed to road crashes and poses a serious threat to pedestrians and other road users.

Mr Quansah recounted an incident on Thursday, September 10, 2026, when he allegedly nearly knocked down a young motorbike rider at Assakae.

He said the rider appeared to be looking at his phone while riding, and that after he cautioned him about the danger, the rider allegedly followed him and attempted to confront him.

He also cited another incident at Assakae Christian Junction last week, where a motorbike reportedly knocked down a boy believed to be between seven and eight years old before the rider allegedly fled the scene.

The broadcaster is therefore calling on the police to step up patrols and enforcement operations in Assakae, Kwesimintsim, Apollo, Anaji and along the Ntankoful Highway.

He believes increased police visibility and strict enforcement of traffic regulations could help deter dangerous riding and prevent further crashes, injuries and possible loss of lives.

Mr Quansah has also copied the appeal to media houses, traditional leaders in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the Member of Parliament for the Kwesimintsim Constituency.

The concerns come amid renewed calls for motorists and motorbike riders to exercise greater caution and comply with road safety regulations to protect all road users.
