Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has revealed that three first-team players — Richarlison, Pape Matar Sarr and Kevin Danso — have asked to leave the club ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The Italian made the revelation after Tottenham suffered a second consecutive Premier League defeat, losing 2-0 at home to Newcastle United on Saturday.

According to De Zerbi, Richarlison has repeatedly expressed his desire to leave, while Danso and Sarr informed the manager of their intentions earlier this week.

“Richarlison said too many times that he wanted to leave. He said it in an interview,” De Zerbi said.

“Danso came to me two days ago and said he wanted to leave, Sarr the same, but he also suffered a small injury. He is almost ready to train.”

The Tottenham boss, however, insisted that the club would only sanction departures if suitable financial agreements are reached.

“I love these players and these are great guys. I have very good relationships, but if they want to leave they have to bring the economic solution to the club and they can go, and we'll find other players,” he added.

All three players were left out of Tottenham’s matchday squad for the Newcastle defeat.

Anthony Elanga opened the scoring for the visitors in the 62nd minute before Yoane Wissa doubled Newcastle’s advantage 10 minutes later.

The defeat has intensified the pressure on Tottenham, who have now lost their opening two Premier League matches without scoring a goal.

Spurs began the campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Brentford before suffering another setback against Newcastle. It is the first time Tottenham have lost their first two league matches without scoring since the 1974-75 season.

Richarlison

The 29-year-old Brazilian has one year remaining on his Tottenham contract after joining the club from Everton in 2022 for £50 million, with a further £10 million in potential add-ons.

Richarlison is reportedly attracting interest from former club Everton, as well as Juventus, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. A permanent departure is currently expected if an agreement can be reached.

Pape Matar Sarr

The 23-year-old midfielder has also informed Tottenham of his desire to leave.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Sarr has agreed personal terms with Juventus, with the Italian giants currently leading the race for his signature ahead of Nottingham Forest and Galatasaray.

Tottenham are understood to want around £20 million for the Senegal international.

Kevin Danso

Danso's situation is particularly notable because the defender has only recently triggered Tottenham's £20.9 million obligation to make his move from Lens permanent.

The 27-year-old reportedly wants assurances over regular first-team football. A proposed loan move to Sunderland was rejected earlier this week.

With the transfer window closing on September 1, Tottenham face a frantic final 48 hours to potentially replace three first-team players.

De Zerbi, who took charge of Tottenham on March 31 after replacing Igor Tudor, is still searching for his first Premier League victory — and his first league goal — as Spurs manager.

Despite the difficult start and growing uncertainty within the squad, the Italian called for patience.

“We need to stay calm and patient. Many new pieces, key pieces — who will undoubtedly find their way to the win column,” De Zerbi said.

For Tottenham, however, the clock is now ticking. The club must decide whether to allow three players to leave while simultaneously attempting to strengthen a squad that has yet to score in the Premier League this season.
