Fuel Prices Set to Rise as Crude Oil Surges

Accra, Ghana —

Prices of petrol, diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) are expected to increase from Wednesday, September 16, 2026, following a sharp rise in international crude oil and refined petroleum product prices, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has projected.

According to COPEC’s latest pricing projection, petrol could increase by 4.24 percent to about GH¢16.26 per litre, while diesel is projected to rise by 10.23 percent to approximately GH¢19.07 per litre during the second pricing window of September.

LPG prices are also expected to increase, with COPEC estimating a new price of about GH¢15.32 per kilogramme.

In its pricing projection dated September 13, 2026, COPEC attributed the expected increases primarily to developments on the international petroleum market.

The Chamber said international crude oil prices rose sharply from US$89.30 to US$103.07 per barrel during the period under review, putting additional pressure on domestic fuel prices.

The projected increases could translate into higher transportation and operating costs for businesses, particularly in sectors that rely heavily on road transport and diesel-powered equipment.

Consumers could also face increased household expenses if the higher fuel prices feed through into transport fares and the prices of goods and services.

The expected adjustment comes under Ghana’s price deregulation regime, under which changes in international crude oil prices, refined petroleum product prices and other market factors influence domestic pump prices.

If the projection materialises, diesel users are expected to bear the largest percentage increase, with the estimated 10.23 percent rise significantly exceeding the projected adjustments for petrol and LPG.

Fuel prices are closely watched by businesses and consumers because changes at the pump can have wider implications for inflation, logistics, production and household spending.

The new prices are expected to take effect from Wednesday, September 16, 2026, marking the beginning of the second pricing window for petroleum products in September.
