The Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana (IET-GH) has inducted a new batch of engineers into the profession with a call on them to uphold integrity, embrace innovation and use their expertise to contribute to Ghana’s sustainable development.

The induction ceremony was held at the Takoradi Technical University Auditorium on Saturday, September 12, 2026, under the theme: “Engineering Ghana’s Future: Innovation, Integrity and Sustainable Development.”

National President of IET-GH, Engr. Wonder Salami Davor, urged the newly inducted engineers to see themselves as problem-solvers capable of developing innovative solutions to Ghana’s development challenges.

He cautioned them against merely replicating existing solutions, stressing the importance of creativity and innovation in addressing the country’s growing needs.

Engr. Davor also challenged the engineers to maintain high professional and ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.

He particularly warned against signing or endorsing technical documents without properly inspecting project sites or having adequate knowledge of the work involved.

According to him, professional negligence and unethical conduct could have serious consequences, including loss of professional licenses, damage to reputations and, in extreme cases, loss of human lives.

He therefore urged the new engineers to remain honest and responsible, especially when faced with pressure to compromise their professional standards.

Engineers urged to embrace entrepreneurship

The Special Guest of Honour, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies at Takoradi Technical University, Prof. Mrs. Abigail Gura, also urged the engineers to consider the broader economic impact of their profession.

She said their induction came with a responsibility to apply the knowledge and skills acquired through their training to develop practical solutions and create opportunities for society.

Prof. Gura encouraged the engineers not to depend solely on traditional employment opportunities but to explore entrepreneurship by transforming innovative ideas into businesses.

She noted that such initiatives could help create jobs, add value to the economy and contribute to Ghana’s development.

The ceremony marked the formal induction of the engineers into the profession while highlighting the expectations placed on them to contribute to Ghana’s future through innovation, professional integrity and sustainable development.
