Juventus Push to Bring Tottenham Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Back to Italy

Juventus have stepped up their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, with the Italian emerging as the club’s leading target to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Bianconeri have turned their attention to the 29-year-old after negotiations for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez stalled over his valuation, leaving Vicario as the preferred alternative.

Talks between Juventus and Tottenham are reportedly progressing positively, with the London club now understood to be more open to a loan deal containing an option or obligation to buy.

That structure would suit Juventus, who are seeking greater financial flexibility in completing the deal.

Vicario’s Tottenham future in doubt

Vicario joined Tottenham from Empoli in 2023 and quickly established himself as an important part of the squad, earning widespread praise during his debut campaign in the Premier League.

However, his position at the club has changed significantly since then.

The goalkeeper lost his place as Tottenham’s first choice to Antonín Kinský last season, while the arrival of Martin Dúbravka has further increased competition for places.

New Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly backing Kinský, with Vicario’s omission from Tottenham’s pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia further fuelling speculation that the Italian is on his way out.

With his long-term future in north London increasingly uncertain, a return to Serie A now appears to be a realistic possibility.

Juventus moves to the front

Juventus initially explored a deal for Martínez but were unable to bridge the gap over the Argentine’s valuation.

With other options proving difficult, Vicario has become the “strong name” on Juventus’ shortlist.

The Italian goalkeeper is reportedly keen on the move, particularly because a return to Serie A would offer him the prospect of regular first-team football and strengthen his hopes of returning to the Italy national team.

Personal terms are also said to have been broadly agreed, putting Juventus in a favorable position as negotiations with Tottenham continue.

Vicario is reportedly more attracted to a move to Turin than a potential switch to Napoli, adding further encouragement to Juventus’ pursuit.

Tottenham ready to negotiate

Tottenham had initially placed a €20 million valuation on Vicario, but that figure is now considered highly negotiable as the club looks to reshape its goalkeeping options.

For Spurs, moving Vicario on would help clear the path for Kinský to assume greater responsibility under De Zerbi while also reducing competition in the position.

For Juventus, meanwhile, the potential arrival of Vicario would provide an experienced Italian goalkeeper with Premier League pedigree and a strong incentive to revive his international ambitions.

The two clubs are therefore moving closer to an agreement, with the proposed loan-plus-purchase structure potentially providing a solution acceptable to both sides.

If negotiations continue at their current pace, Vicario could be on course for a return to Italy before the start of the new campaign.

After three seasons in England, the Tottenham goalkeeper now appears closer than ever to swapping north London for Turin.
