Mahama Announces Plans to Revive Pwalugu Tomato Factory

Navrongo, Upper East Region —

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to rehabilitate the Pwalugu Tomato Factory in the Upper East Region as part of government’s efforts to boost tomato production and agro-processing.

President Mahama said the factory would serve as a major processing centre for tomatoes produced under a planned expansion of tomato cultivation in the region.

Speaking during a citizens’ engagement in Navrongo on Friday, August 14, the President said the planned investment under the government’s New Economy programme would place agriculture and agro-processing at the centre of Ghana’s economic development.

He explained that reviving the factory would help create a ready market for farmers, reduce post-harvest losses and strengthen local value addition in the tomato sector.

The initiative forms part of broader government efforts to expand agricultural production while promoting industrialisation and job creation through agro-processing.

The rehabilitation of the Pwalugu factory is expected to support farmers in the Upper East Region and contribute to the government’s strategy of building a more productive and value-added agricultural economy.
